Loved Ones

For those who have lost a loved one

Even though St. Anthony left home when he was only a teenager, he never stopped loving his family. He was usually quite far from where they lived, especially considering how difficult travel was in those days. He didn't get to see them again once he arrived in Italy, but he always tried to help them when he could.

One time, St. Anthony's sister sought his intercession. He five year old son had drowned while playing in the sea. The boy's father wanted to bury him, but she insisted that her son was not to be buried until she had a chance to ask her brother for help. She prayed to St. Anthony, telling him that he had helped so many people over the years. Maybe it was time for him to help his own family. He answered her prayers and her boy was brought back to life.

Another time, he had to intervene to help his father. Someone had murdered a young man and buried his body in his father's garden. St. Anthony's father was blamed for the murder and could not find a way to prove his innocence. St. Anthony, who was in Italy at the time, also appeared in Lisbon and he raised the young man from the dead so that he could testify to St. Anthony's father innocent.

and heal my grief.
Console me in God's love and mercy.
Amen.
